POP Fender is a telescoping boat fender for recreational boating. It doesn’t need to be inflated and works like a spring. The purpose of it is to protect against damage to the outer shell of a ship during port maneuvers, as well as when mooring at the quay wall, at jetties or in a parcel (ship to ship).

What makes POP Fender so unique and special?
It is compact, non-toxic & recyclable and does not squeak. You can even choose your own color, streaks and discolorations are easy to remove. It is maintenance-free, easy to clean and its use under water for 2 to 3 days is also another advantage.

POP Fender has been tried and tested on inland waterways by a large number of amateur captains, who together can draw on over 300 years of experience.

POP Fender contains no toxic PVC and no plasticizers that are harmful to the environment. In order to maintain its technical and optical properties, we recommend regular surface care with the original POP Fender Premium care product, which helps to preserve the surface finish. The surface of the POP Fender is matt. Please note that the white POP Fenders require a lot of care – just like classic white fenders.

Every single part of the POP Fender can be replaced individually and re-ordered at any time.

Traction tests have shown that when subjected to a linear load the POP Fender can sustain a traction load of over 200kg before the individual parts separate. The individual parts do not break in that process and can be reassembled afterwards. Details at: https://popfender.com/instruction-manual/

POP Fender is the widest in the middle with a diameter of 165mm. The telescopic area is between 250 and 620mm in length.

POP Fender ø165 x 250/620mm has a net weight of 1.38kg.

POP Fender ø165 x 250/620mm is suitable for boats with a maximum mass of 3000kg. It is at your discretion whether your circumstances meet the technical requirements.

Is POP Fender suitable for my boat?
We recommend the same handling as with classic fenders. There is a summary below (“Number of fenders according to boat length”) which can be used as a guide.

Please note that none of the other suppliers list a corresponding boat weight, however we do.

Reference Boat length Diameter Number of fenders
Orangemarine 6-8m 120-200mm 8
12 nautical miles 6,1-7,6m 150-170mm 6
SRP up to 10m 6
POP Fender up to 3000kg up to 3000kg 4-8

Many of our customers use the POP Fender ø165 x 250/620mm on much heavier boats – particularly in areas where a small fender is sufficient. In these instances it is up to your judgment to decide for yourself whether the POP Fender is sufficient to ensure safety.

The POP Fender should be disassembled and cleaned annually
Please see the following video link for instructions: https://popfender.com/instruction-manual/

Coarse stains or dirt have to be removed by hand before placing the POP Fender in the dishwasher at up to 65°C. Use commercially available detergents or tabs. For details, please see: https://popfender.com/instruction-manual/

You can also use very fine sandpaper (grain=220) to remove very coarse streaks, scratches and discolorations by sanding them lightly beforehand.

Air drying is recommended after cleaning in the dishwasher. POP Fender is not suitable for drying in a microwave oven, in a tumble dryer or similar. After cleaning, we recommend impregnating the fender with our care product which can be purchased in our web shop. This will noticeably extend the life of your POP Fender.

What material is the POP Fender made of?
The basis for a high-quality product begins with the choice of materials. We had six materials from different manufacturers tested in the laboratory. Based on this knowledge, we decided to go with TPV SANTROPENE, which is also the most reputable. SANTROPENE’s TPV has been tried and tested in the automotive industry for over 40 years. Features and characteristics of TPV SANTROPENE are:

  • Application for sealing lines
  • UV aging, ozone and weathering resistance
  • Chemical and oil resistance
  • High resilience over a wide temperature range
  • High bending fatigue strength
  • High thermal and electrical insulation values
  • Weight reduction through the redesign of components compared to thermoset rubber
  • Colorability – metallic, photochromic/thermochromic effects
  • Aesthetics – options for surface, feel and look
  • Recyclable

According to the manufacturer, the material TPV is suitable for temperatures ranging from -60°C to +135°C, depending on the type and duration of exposure, and has been tried and tested in the automotive industry.

We guarantee a range of use from -10°C to +70°C.

Please note that POP Fender, just like classic fenders, must not be pinched when mooring.
The fenders need some leeway to ensure their function, only then can POP Fender work like a spring. A stuck boat cannot absorb energy in case of extreme winds combined with tidal ranges or when another boat touches up. The damage will be much greater in this case compared to there being some space between the fenders.

As with classic fenders, you should not position POP Fenders in places where plastic film – for whatever reason – is attached to the hull. Rays of sunlight can heat up this film, which can then result in being rubbed off by the fender.

Like conventional fenders, the POP fender is not a swimming aid and therefore cannot be used as a life buoy. It is also not a water toy for children.

Generally, POP Fender is resistant to a large number of solvents and chemicals. POP Fender is very difficult to dissolve in common solvents. Nevertheless, we ask you to check tolerance on the inner surface first.

It is recommended to use the included bag for storing the collapsed POP Fender.

Improper use and handling releases POP Fender GmbH from any guarantee obligation. In the case of improper use, there is no liability claim against POP Fender GmbH.

Each individual POP Fender is subject to strict quality control. However, should you have reason for complaint, please let us know. We are committed to find a solution and continually strive to improve our product.
